SondaSYS SL02 is equipped in the top-quality optical system: Cambridge Lightning II from Cambridge Technology. To give you the tip: it is used by US Army guidance systems too. US Army know what works, that’s for sure. Our engineers know as well.
So that technologically advanced optical system gives to our devices significant market advantages. We want to tell you about some of them briefly and leave you without doubts.
So what ensures using in SondaSYS SL02 model 3-axis optical galvo? First of all: the size of the build volume can be changed
And that is very important and gives impressive effects in the optimization of production costs by adjusting the size of the build space to current needs. All that user needs to do is to choose size 1 (65 x 265 x 310 mm) or size 2 (365 x 365 x 610 mm). The device will prepare smaller or larger build volume by itself. So if you need to print smaller objects or a small number of elements you may choose smaller build volume. So then the heating and cooling time will be shorter, the amount of powder needed to use much smaller and cost per part also lower. But what when you need to gain a big element or big quantity? When having a 3D printer with a permanent build chamber size you need to repeat the printing process or use other device. Whereas, in SL02 you just need to change printing settings and choose other, larger printing space. So tailoring build volume to your current needs allow also to speed up the process by reducing heating and cooling times.

Secondary: SondaSYS SL02 has the ability to smoothly change the size of the laser beam during the printing process.
So thanks to that you can speed up the process through a faster filling model and that enables significant acceleration of the process and termination of work. How big? That depends on the model’s size, but just count that you can save 5-10 seconds on just one layer and then multiply it by layer number. 5 seconds x 4000 layers = +/- 5,5 hour shorter process time. Please judge for yourself if it’s a lot.

But that is not all. Changing the size of the laser beam during the printing process is also preserving the precision of external surfaces. It is all digital controlled and operated, so all you need is just to choose appropriate parameters in steering soft. What’s also worth emphasizing and remembering: a thicker laser beam makes the models stronger. So finally the model has less dispersed structure and have greater strength inside. That is for sure important when you are producing functional prototypes, tools, or short-run product series.

Advantage number 3: minimizing distortion
3-axis galvo system does not need to operate the f-theta lens. Used in standard 2-axis systems f-theta lend heats too much and that causes distortions. In SondaSYS SL02 3-axis galvo system distortions are minimizing and problems with lens changing the geometry by itself under the influence of temperature are eliminated. So users do not need to change the scanned portion of the working plane to evenly distribute the temperature on the lens surface, like in 2-axis systems.
